The Irene-Wakonda High School track team opened their 2026 outdoor season by competing in the Gary Pepper Memorial Track Meet held in Scotland on April 9. Despite being a cool day, the Eagles competed at a high level with several place winners as well as two new school records and six first place finishes.
Ava George placed first in the 3200 run with a new school record in that event. Noah Hansen placed third in the javelin, but his throw was also a new school record in that event. Maryn Lyngstad took first place in both the 100 hurdles and 300 hurdles. Callie Peterson captured the top spot in the girls pole vault. On the boys side, Jordan Stockland won the 3200, while Tristan Llewelyn finished first in the 200 meter dash.
Overall, the girls team was 2nd out of nine teams, and the boys team was 6th out of 10 teams competing.
